Everyone’s Entitled to An Opinion, But Every Opinion Isn’t Entitled to Consideration

What a time to be alive! We have the freedom of expression, which is indeed a beautiful thing. But some opinions receive quite a bit of attention when they aren’t that important in the grand scheme of things.

I’m not saying people shouldn’t speak their minds. Why would I say that when that’s all I do as a writer?

I’m just saying that every spoken word shouldn’t be taken at face value. Part of critical thinking is going beyond the surface and looking at the motives of the speaker.

Why are they saying this publicly? Why now? Why am I being asked to participate or act?

Words are energy, & energy can be harnessed by well-placed, vehemently & charismatically spoken buzzwords meant to evoke strong reactions, and sometimes exploit collective emotional pain & sensitivities.

If the passion is real, there will be action behind it, to solidify it. If there is no action, it is likely nothing more than a feel-good slogan or an attention-seeking antic.

Some words are meant to be simply entertainment, to do nothing more than flit by the ears like a monarch butterfly in the spring breeze, forgotten soon after.

Let us not allow our admiration & thirst for entertainment to cloud our judgment.
